Orosz Ground Robotics Experiment Research Assistant Sep. 2013 – Present

  • • Research on connected cruise control to improve traffic efficiency and string stability in one lane.
  • • Conduct signal processing, sensor calibration and PID controller tuning on LabVIEW CRIO platform for testing.
  • • Implement multiple vehicle testing platform by Solidworks design and CNC G-code programing for manufacturing.

Automatic Tic-Tac-Toe Game Player Jan. 2015 – Present

  • • Design and fabricate plannary robotic arm with three degress of freedom that can place Go-game pieces accurately.
  • • Implement embedded system for robotic arm control, Go-game pieces release and image capture with Arduino and FPGA.
  • • Utilize image processing and greedy algorithm to design an artificial intelligience to play against human players.

Flow Meter Calibration Rig Data Acquisition System Developer May 2014 – Jun. 2014

  • • Developed a data acquisition system in LabVIEW with PCI-7813 and PCI-6259 for flow meter calibrations.
  • • Verified system functionality with FMEA for flow meters distributed around the company as measurement standard.
  • • Optimized user interface to enable generic meter calibration and significantly reduced operational error.

Single Injector Tester Concept Prover Jun. 2014 – July 2014

  • • Realized RS-232 serial communication, analog input, PWM output with library in C++ and MFC framework.
  • • Conducted feasibility verification for the product to be sold internally to Cummins service engineers.
  • • Investigated possibility to replace PC with PLC systems from Rockwell Automation for cost efficiency.

Mechanized Pedestrian for Auto-vehicle Testing Designer Sep. 2014 – Dec. 2014

  • • Designed and manufactured an adult male size mannequin that can shuffle at 1m/s using linkages, gears and pulleys.
  • • Implemented PI controller with Arduino, real time display with NI myRIO and ultrasonic vehicle detection system.
  • • Assembled mechanized pedestrian for automatic vehicle testing at Michigan Mobility Transformation Center.

Mars Rover Robotic Arm Designer Sep. 2013 – Jan. 2014

  • • Served as robotic arm group leader to design a robotic arm with 5kg load capacity and interface for changeable tools.
  • • Designed linkage system with actuators with six degrees of freedom for complicated motion trajectory.
  • • Implemented PID control algorithm in Matlab using Simulink interface for Arduino for precision control.

Mobile Backpack Carrier Designer Sep. 2013 – Dec. 2013

  • • Designed, modeled, simulated and manufactured linkage system with detailed analysis in Solidworks and ADAMS.
  • • Implemented PI controller algorithm using Arduino microcomputer that achieved 2% accuracy for specified time.
  • • Achieved best design parameter performance and best quality report within assigned lab section.

Degree Progress Checking System Project Manager Sep. 2012 – Aug. 2013

  • • Initiated the project with the UM-SJTU Joint Institute academic office to simplify graduation checking process.
  • • Formulated a web based system for automatic degree progress managing using SQL, PHP and HTML/CSS.
  • • Implemented automatic report generation with PHPEXCEL that reduced graduation checking time to 20 percent.

Underwater Glider Manufacturer Feb. 2012 – Mar. 2013

  • • Manufactured and assembled an underwater glider prototype to optimize a design of graduate students in SJTU.
  • • Studied the behavior of an underwater glider horizontal movement by mathematical modeling using Matlab Simulink.
  • • Implemented proportional control for gravity center changing to evoke zigzag movement of the glider in Arduino.

Automatic Paper Separator Designer May. 2012 – Aug. 2012

  • • Designed an automatic paper separator to rearrange stacks of exam paper within 200 pages in order.
  • • Manufactured and assembled the detailed design using Arduino microcomputer, infrared sensors and DC motors.
  • • Carried out field test for exam paper distribution before a math course successfully.

Vehicle Structure Design Automotive Body Structure

  • • Translated the customer voice of a 5 people mid size vehicle for use of long distance travel between Michigan and Florida.
  • • Performed dimension sizing and mass estimation of the mid size vehicle for structure analysis.
  • • Analyzed the structure elements for vehicle local and overall stiffness and strength performance.

Atherectomy Soft Tissue Machining Machining Process

  • • Designed and fabricated fixture for atherectomy machining to simulate internal grinding of a calcified artery.
  • • Conducted experiment with dynamometer and high speed camera with synchronized LabVIEW DAQ system.
  • • Modeled the behavior of grinding wheel shaft with elastic beam theory based on the experiment data.

Car Door Hinge Finite Element Analysis Introduction to FEA

  • • Modeled door hinge in Hypermesh using 3D solid elements meshing with 2D shell elements skin for accurate stress recovery.
  • • Applied proper boundary constrain conditions on hinge back and distributed loading on the shell "washer" for analysis.
  • • Justified analysis result by splitting original mesh and comparing stress extrapolation result.

Virtual Tennis Game Automatic Control

  • • Designed and modeled a virtual tennis game using VRML interface provided in the Simulink module of Matlab.
  • • Utilized slider and nob sensors placed on a cigarbox as user inputs with Arduino microcontroller.
  • • Implemented real time interactive game of player versus AI or other players and won the most popular project award in class.

Active Sonar Pod Shape Proposal with Minimized Drag Laboratory 1

  • • Designed and fabricated a scaled wooden model for prediction of full scale sonar pod.
  • • Characterized drag and lift coefficient with respect to Reynolds number in a wind tunnel.
  • • Performed dimensional analysis to predict the required drag force a full scale sonar pod with identical relative geometry.

Field Programmable Gate Array Counter Digital Design

  • • Designed a timer and a calculator that can perform adding and subtraction for eight bit signed interger in Verilog.
  • • Combined timer and calculator design with debouncing function and student ID rolling enabled as enhanced feature.
  • • Synthesized Verilog code in Xilinx ISE and deployed hardware design on Xilinx Spartan 3e-500 board using JTAG interface.

Smart Phone Concept and Catapult Design and Manufacturing 1

  • • Modeled a concept smart phone with additional function in Unigraphics.
  • • Designed a catapult with pure mechanical structure that can shoot a rubber ball up to 15 meter with 0.2 meter deviation.
  • • Manufactured the catapult design in the machine shop using mill and lathe with design parameters fully realized.
