The House Divided

Treasures

Chackalshek

Chackalshek is the hereditary sword of the Day family. It is a longsword, perhaps four feet in length, with a simple hilt decorated with only a few silver filigrees. The pommel is actually a large watch, which, as far as anyone can tell, always keeps scrupulously accurate time. Duchess Day wears the sword on ceremonial occasions, but usually leaves it at her court in Belmont. Chackalshek is said to have the ability to carve one day from the next... although whether that is "day" or "Day" is really not clear --- some stories give it the ability to find the next heir of the Days, some give it the ability to cut time itself. Some stories say that what that means is that each Day will ultimately come in conflict with her heir, which is certainly true of the present Duchess and her father.

The Focus of Ialm

The Focus is a large lens, about hand-sized, set in a silver circlet and strung onto a chain. The Darkling Willoby usually wears it around his neck. While no one really knows exactly what its powers are, he uses it while scrying, peering intently at his subject. Whatever its more potent powers are, it has the ability to make the eye of the person looking through it appear ridiculously large and bloodshot to whoever he is looking at.

The Northern Bell

This bell hangs in the Memorial Hall tower --- the real one --- but only when rung by the Count or Countess (or at their command) will its true power be told. The bell is audible to changelings throughout the county, and as well as having a deep and beautiful sound, it imparts a general sense of why it was rung to the listener. The bell is rung for celebrations, summons, and of course in times of war.
