Scientists making the world a better place to live
I have been a member of UCS for about a decade. This organization does awesome work to make sure science is heard in Washington regarding pollution, climate change, energy security, drug safety, and conservation of our natural resources.
I have been a member of AAAS since grad school. This scientific society also does general science advocacy, like UCS. But as a professional organization AAAS also has an interest in career development and publishes a peer-reviewed journal, Science, where everyone submits their hottest manuscripts.
Cycling
I used to race bicycles competitively for Johns Hopkins University and Kelly/LSV. These days I ride mostly for transportation and occasionally tag along on rides with the MIT cycling team.
Music
Cello
I started playing cello in elementary school after realizing that I wasn't coordinated enough to play piano. I played through college and occasionally picked it up in grad school. But alas the cello did not move west with me and we spent a few years apart. Now that we are reunited again on the east coast I am pretty rusty but hope to improve.
