Multidisciplinary Research Trajectory

I am a fourth-year PhD student in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at MIT, where I apply machine learning to accelerate the development of next-generation semiconductor materials, particularly 2D materials. My research focuses on building end-to-end ML-enabled systems that integrate data collection, automation, and scientific modeling.

My academic training began in chemistry, where I earned both my BS and MS degrees. During this time, I developed a broad foundation across physical chemistry, materials science, and spectroscopy, while also exploring adjacent areas such as green energy systems, biotechnology, drug development, and nuclear engineering.

Before my PhD, I worked as a Process Integration Engineer at Micron Technology, supporting high-volume DRAM manufacturing. In addition to solving yield and process margin issues on the production line, I built data-driven metrology monitoring tools that improved engineering efficiency and decision-making at scale. This experience shaped my interest in combining data, automation, and domain knowledge to solve real-world engineering problems.

At MIT, my work bridges machine learning, materials science, and electrical engineering. Beyond my core research, I continue to explore topics including quantum and statistical physics, power electronics, and integrated circuit devices—reflecting a broader goal of developing adaptable ML systems that transfer across scientific domains.

Interests

I enjoy applying engineering thinking beyond formal research—building, fixing, and optimizing real-world systems. These hands-on interests reflect how I approach problems as a maker and life hacker.

  • Hands-on engineering & making — Home improvement, carpentry, plumbing, and electrical work; designing practical solutions and learning systems by building them end to end.
  • Music & computational musicality — Pop piano performance and piano tuning, with a strong intuition for chord progression in pop music, and growing interest in computer-science–assisted musicality and music-related ML research.
