TOPEX/POSEIDON Altimetry

Sea surface height measurements by TOPEX/POSEIDON (T/P) were originally designed to provide global estimates of large scale circulation at periods greater than 20 days. However, we are studying one small region of the ocean at high latitudes where barotropic motions are known to dominate. Therefore, we expect high frequency energy to be aliased to lower frequencies in this particular region. Also, we will be looking for regional and smaller scale spatial patterns in TOPEX data even though it is known that TOPEX is increasingly noisy at small spatial scales.
