The Omni-Camera is one of the most interesting mew media recently
invented. It is a revolutionnary type of camera that images a hemisphere
of views all at the same time. The viewer is in complete control of
the image he or she wants to see since he can control his view in
software. The URL of the project is at:

    http://bagpipe.cs.columbia.edu/Omnicam/

This new media is interesting in more than one ways.
It is multi-user: multiple users can use the same data from the
camera and look at completely different and independent views.
This promotes interaction with the medium and promotes the
viewer to something closer to a camera-man. This mode of
interaction is particularly impressive on the web, where one
or more users can open multiple web windows to the camera
and look at the same world from the same viewpoint but through
different eyes: it's not too hard to foresee the possibilities
to integrate this new medium with virtual-reality accessories,
allowing real-time exploration of remote sites through actuator-
    mounted omni-cameras.
