Embassy Activities Schedule

This schedule concerns the time between 11:00 and 4:30, when the embassies will be holding their activities. For information on the feast, go to the Feast Page.

Florentine Embassy Schedule

Ongoing Alessandro the Storyteller will share tales from Italy; John of Canterbury will converse on the merchants, history, and governance of the city of Florence; Arianna Chiara Fiorucci will have sonnets from the early Italian poets (Dante, Petrarch, Cavalcante, etc.) and the Decameron for perusal; general socializing.

11:30 Storytelling/readings from Italian literature, Alessandro

12:30 Instrumental performance: contrafacta by Alexandri Agricola (1446-1506), presented by a mixed consort, consisting of Udalrich Schermer, Alison Winter and Franz Joder von Joderhuebel.

1 pm Glass beads of lampwork manufacuture, Godith Anyon: Glass can be made into shapes and colors that are beautiful in their own right, or can be made to mimic precious and semi-precious stones. Italy was a major glass and bead producing area first in Roman times, and again in the Renaissance. Discussion on making lampwork beads, and about the styles of beads made in period.

2 pm Wool working, Eithne of Canterbury: Discussion of working with wool (spinning, weaving, finishing) as opposed to other fibers. The wool industry was a major production industry in Florence for several centuries, and as such is an important part of the city's history.

Japanese Embassy Schedule

Ongoing Informal Tea throughout the day. Mokurai-bozu, our resident Zen monk and teacher to the Daimyo of Matsuyama, has also indicated he will be willing to offer dharma lessons for those in need of guidance in these "latter days of the law". Don't be shy, he only strikes pupils occasionally.

11:00 Ikebana Demo. - Learn the basics of our native flower arranging art and the aesthetics behind it, as well as much of Japanese culture.

12:00 A short Koto recital. - The koto is a 6-long zither-type instrument of unsurpassed elegance.

12:30 Indigo Shibori Demo. - Aki-ame-hime, the Lady of Matsuyama Clan, demonstrates the art of shibori tie-dying on silk.

2:30 Setsubun Good Luck Ceremony for children and adults who like to throw things.

3:00 Weapons demo - Naginata kata and cutting with the Japanese sword (on the stage).
