Hobbies & Interests

What I do when I'm not building things (though making is definitely a big one!)

Making & Fabrication

My most prolific hobby! From welding and woodworking to laser cutting and CNC machining, I love designing and building functional objects from scratch. Whether it's salvaging steel from scrap dumpsters or creating custom electrochemical cells, making things is where I'm most at home.

Current focus: Injection molding, composite fabrication, and precision machining

Aerial Silks

Training in aerial silks combines strength, flexibility, and artistry. The physics of weight distribution, momentum, and controlled falling translate surprisingly well to understanding structural mechanics and material behavior under load.

It's problem-solving in 3D space while suspended in fabric

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu

BJJ is like physical chess—every move is a calculated decision based on leverage, timing, and strategy. The iterative problem-solving mindset mirrors the engineering process.

Elegant solutions beat brute force

Hiking

Being outdoors clears the mind and sparks creativity. Hiking provides the reset needed to approach complex problems with fresh perspective.

Random Conferences & Lectures

I enjoy attending talks completely outside my field. You never know when a talk on something obscure will spark a new idea.

Learning random new things is basically a sport

DIY Science Experiments

From simulations to analyzing datasets, I love exploring scientific ideas hands-on. The line between hobby and research gets blurry quickly.
