Cycling along the Baltic shores, August, 2003

I was going to a conference in Copenhagen during the 3rd week of August. I thought it would be nice to do a bicycle tour along the Baltic shores of Denmark, Germany and Sweden afterwards. This region has a network of bicycle paths, the terrain is flat, and there would be a sea breeze to ward off the mid-day heat.

Rugen, Germany, Day 5
White chalk cliffs

The Jasmund national park on Rugen island is well known for its white chalk cliffs. The beach was strewn with driftwood and chalk-coated pebbles. An ideal setting for a quiet beach walk.

Malmo, Sweden, Day 9
Windmill

After crossing the Baltic sea from Rugen to Trelleborg and then riding to Ystad, making a day visit to Borholm island, and riding through Sjobo and Lund, I arrived in Malmo, my last stop. The main city park has a beautifully restored windmill.
