I am an Assistant Professor in Geophysics in the Center for Offshore Research and Engineering with applications in petroleum, civil, and environmental industry. The research program is anchored on the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at National University of Singapore.

Before coming to Singapore, I worked with Laurent Demanet on inverse problem, wave physics, and seismic imaging as a postdoctoral associate. I obtained my Ph.D. degree in Geophysics from Stanford University in 2014. My Ph.D. advisor is Biondo Biondi.

Opportunities to work with the interdisciplinary Petroleum Engineering and Geoscience group as postdocs, graduate students, and summer interns. Details see Openings.

Research interests

I am broadly interested in exploration and environmental geophysics, which includes but not limited to:

  • Seismic wave simulation
  • Seismic inversion for structural imaging
  • Subsurface characterization with deterministic and stochastic methods
  • Data integration among geophysics, rock-physics, and hydrology
  • Seismic monitoring for reservoir and civil purposes
  • Digital signal and image processing

General research theme

The goal of my research is to build a reliable subsurface model considering all available information. Here are a few aspects of my research:

  • Efficient seismic modeling and imaging methods
  • Model-space joint evaluation with multiple data sets
  • Inversion results with proper uncertainty quantification
Here is an example for inverting anisotropic wave speed models for inexperienced students and general audience.
