Capture the Flag, Lava Style

Requires: 3 master sets, 2 lava sets, 1 road set, lots of extra hexes from boosters

2 players. 400 point armies. 16 rounds. Setup on the green region at either end of the map.

Special rules: Each side has 2 flag runes, which must be protected. A flag can be grabbed by landing on it (no need to stop). While carring a flag, a unit has disengage. If either enemy flag is carried back behind the stone wall in your starting territory, you immediately win the game.

The roads up:

Theory: Flying, grapple guns, and leaping are all valuable for taking the plateau, although the road helps get up there too. Non-flying 2x1 units will probably be unable to get up onto the plateau. Lava resistant units and fast units (e.g. Swog Riders) can take the low route, and try to stay out of sight of the troops above. Use the 3 summoning runes to yank enemies off of key runes and drop them onto the lava fields. If they move away, they will take disengage damage, but if they stay and fight they will take lava field damage. Plus you get a momentary respite from anyone standing on an annoying rune. Defense is not effective: if you let the enemy control the plateau, then he will have an attack bonus and a range bonus, and will be able to pelt you from a distance.
