The 2000 AUV Competition

The 2000 competition asked teams to build a fully autonomous robotic submarine to locate a hidden underwater sonar beacon and bring it to the surface. More information about the 2000 competition can be found on the AUVSI web site. MIT tied for second place with Cornell University in the 2000 competition. MIT, Cornell, and first-place winner URI were all able to identify the beacon, but no team was able to successfully retrieve the beacon.
