Guidelines for Enabling NFS Server Logging

With NFS Server logging enabled, any interaction between the NFS clients and server is written in the NFS log file c:\logging.txt. You should enable NFS Server logging when:

To start NFS Server logging, you must enable both NFS Server logging and Network Event logging.

To Enable NFS Server Logging on Windows NT

  1. Start NFS logging.

    1. Right-click on the NFS Server icon in the status area.

      The NFS Server menu appears.

    2. If NFS Logging is not checked, select the option.

  2. Enable Event logging.

    1. Right-click the Network Neighborhood icon and then click Properties.

    2. Click Services, select Solstice File Sharing, and then click Properties.

    3. On the NFS Server tab, select Log NFS server activity.

    4. On the Logging tab, select Enable Network Event Log.

    5. Select Save Log Messages To File and enter the name of a log file.

    6. Click OK to close the Solstice File Sharing Properties dialog box.

    7. Click OK to close the Network dialog box.

      You do not need to restart your computer.

  3. Start the Network Event Log.

    1. Click the Start button, click Run, and then type: sunwsyslogd.

      The Network Event Log window opens.

    2. On the Display menu, click Configure.

      The Network Event Log dialog box opens.

    3. Select Log Messages To File and enter the name of a log file.

    4. Set the desired options, such as how frequently network events are to be written, the severity levels of the messages you want to record, and so on.

      Click Help for detailed information on each option.

    5. Click Save.

    6. Minimize the window.

All logging events pertaining to NFS Server activities are written in the log file which you can open with Notepad.

To Enable NFS Server Logging on Windows 95

  1. Start NFS logging.

    1. Right-click on the NFS Server icon in the status area.

      The NFS Server menu appears.

    2. If NFS Logging is not checked, select the option.

  2. Enable Event logging.

    1. Right-click the Network Neighborhood icon, and then click Properties.

    2. Select Solstice File and Print Sharing and then click Properties.

    3. On the NFS Server tab, select Log NFS server activity.

    4. On the Logging tab, select Enable Network Event Log.

    5. Select Save Log Messages To File and enter the name of a log file.

    6. Click OK to close the Solstice File Sharing dialog box.

    7. Click OK to close the Network dialog box.

      You do not need to restart your computer.

  3. Start the Network Event Log.

    1. Click the Start button, select Programs, select Solstice Utilities, and then click Network Event Log, or enter sunwsyslogd at the Run prompt.

      The Network Event Log window opens.

    2. On the Display menu, click Configure.

      The Network Event Log dialog box opens.

    3. Select Log Messages To File and enter the name of a log file.

    4. Set the desired options, such as how frequently network events are to be written, the severity levels of the messages you want to record, and so on.

      Click Help for detailed information on each option.

    5. Click Save.

    6. Minimize the window.

To Disable NFS Server Logging

  1. Right-click the NFS Server icon in the status area.

    The NFS Server menu opens.

  2. Click NFS Logging.

    The check box is no longer checked and NFS logging is no longer enabled.
