[France]:

Bored with their orders to hold, the French army arranged weekend tours of the wine country for the harvest. When asked whether their actions would be seen as a provocation by the Kaiser, the generals replied "Well, we'd be really surprised if the German army actually tried to leave Belgium this season. But hey, once we heard what the navy was doing, we realized that we'd be stuck holding. So we figured why not do something useful, even if we don't expect to need it?"
