Family of Cockburn of that Ilk

The published accounts of this family contain a variety of errors. Among the points of confusion: I am not the first to note such problems. Joseph Foster's The Baronetage and Knightage of the British Empire for 1882 presents this family under the heading Chaos, "to express the state of doubt and confusion" regarding claims for which "there does not appear to be accessible the prima facie evidence".
