This movie presents the vorticity field of the quantum liquid holographically derived from our turbulent numerical metric.  Initially, the system experiences an instability which drives the ordered state into turbulent evolution. Half way through the simulation, the flow is dominated by many localized vortices in which the fluid rotates clockwise (red) or counterclockwise (blue), with little sign remaining of the sinusoidal structure present in the initial data. As the system evolves, isolated vortices tend to merge together to produce larger and larger vortices, the tell-tale signature of an inverse cascade.
