Hurricane Katrina Relief Effort

ARCTAN is collecting monetary donations for the Hurricane Katrina relief effort. You can read about what aid the American Red Cross is providing to the victims of this national disaster. You can make a donation online, or contribute through our jars around campus.

The MIT Public Service Center will have a table for donations in Lobby 10. Donations may also be made at the upcoming blood drive. Every dollar helps.

Tsunami Relief Effort

As part of the global network of the Red Cross, ARCTAN is working to raise awareness of the tremendous disaster in Southeast Asia and to support the recovery efforts. Listed below are a number of opportunities for members of the MIT Community to help. Whatever you can provide is appreciated.

International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies

The IFRC is the primary agency for coordinating international disaster relief efforts in the countries affected by the Southeast Asia earthquake and tsunami. Online donations support the immediate effort to provide food, water, clothing, shelter, medicine, and other necessities wherever needed, as well as the longer-term effort to restore the affected communities.

While we strongly recommend concentrating on the primary IFRC relief effort and other community actions described above, we know some people may wish to direct their resources to more specialized agencies. Listed below are collections of links to such charities.

For those interested in becoming more involved by directly helping with local and even national disasters, ARCTAN's Disaster Action Team is open to any member of the MIT Community; all necessary training is provided for free.

We offer volunteer opportunities in all of the functions of the American Red Cross. We specialize in Blood Services, Disaster Relief, Health and Safety, Food Pantry, and Youth Outreach.
