MIT BASKETBALL

A number of us planned the biannual Men's MIT Basketball Reunion on February, 7 2009. Over 50 players and friends of all the eras of MIT Basketball came together and had a good time. To help our memories, the DAPER staff compiled all the records from all the teams, and also I have collected some interesting historical pictures.

There are a number of great stories from the 2005-6 team. Not only did they compile the most wins in a season (21), but also in late May & June of 2006, they were invited to participate in the 1st Kainan University Invitational in Taiwan. This was just the third overseas trip of the program's 100+ year history. The photo above was taken during the championship game. Our MIT team played brilliantly and won the entire 8 team tournament, which was featured on national TV. In appreciation, we presented framed posters from the MIT Men's Varsity Basketball Program to our gracious hosts at Kainan University and the MIT Club of Taiwain.

The second MIT basketball overseas tour was to India in 1984 and this also produced a host of special occasions, like meeting then Prime Minister Indira Ghandi. And the first took place in the summer of 1966 - to Iceland and several countries in Europe, especially Yugoslavia. That year, I wrote an article about this adventure in a now-defunct MIT magazine called Innisfree.
