The Rev. Roderick A. MacDonald, Pastor

Sunday Worship: 10:30 A.M. (July and August: 9:30 A.M.)

We are a congregation of the Presbyterian Church (U. S. A.). Comprised of about 160 members, we were established in 1962. Our church is located about 15 miles northwest of Boston, in the Presbytery of Boston.

Worship

Our family worship services are held at 10:30 A.M. on Sunday mornings. (In July and August, we worship at 9:30 A.M.) Child care is always provided. A "Word for Children" is part of each worship service. Children three years old through first grade leave after the "Word for Children"; older children remain for the entire service. Members of the congregation serve as "worship assistants" each week.

Covenant Statement

In 1986, our congregation adopted this statement:

We, the congregation of the Presbyterian Church, Burlington, profess a common faith in the God of history. We believe that God creates and sustains us, saves and liberates us in Jesus Christ, and transforms and empowers us through the Holy Spirit. Responding to God's call, and nurtured by the faithful witness of the Old and New Testaments, we joyfully claim membership in the body of Christ.

As a congregation in the Reformed tradition and of the Presbyterian Church (U. S. A.), we understand ourselves to be a local expression of the universal church.

A suburban location in an area known as "America's Technology Region" has helped shape this church's membership and ministry. Our membership has included some who are longtime residents of the community, and many who live here only for a few years. Our ministry has provided a place of stability amidst rapid change. We continue to welcome people of many ages, talents, backgrounds, and Christian traditions and encourage the use of their varied gifts in our church's life.

We have known conflict, but also God's reconciling love. We are building on the strengths of our formative years: worship and music, lifelong Christian education, and community service

God's spirit constantly leads us to strengthen our ministry and worship. We now seek to combine fresh insights with traditional practices in our worship, to increase congregational involvement in member care, to educate adults for faithful living, and to be better stewards of our property and of our resources for mission.

We praise God that we are covenant people, and we invite others to join with us.

The Lord's Supper

The Lord's Supper is celebrated on the first Sunday of each month, September through June, and on Maundy Thursday. Home communion is taken to shut-ins five times per year.

Christian Education and Church School

Our church has a strong commitment to lifelong Christian education. Church School for children three years old through first grade meets during church time, from 10:30 to 11:30 A.M. Church School for second graders through senior high meets from 9:00 to 10:00 A.M. An adult class meets at this time, also. Child care for children of adults in this class is provided.

Several discussion and study groups for adults meet in the evenings.

In alternate years, a confirmation class meets for eighth- and ninth-graders who are exploring church membership.

A youth fellowship for young people in grades 7 through 12 meets most Sunday evenings from 6:00 to 7:30 P.M. and at other times for special activities.

Choir and Music

Our adult choir always welcomes new members. The choir sings each Sunday during worship and practices Thursday evenings at 8:00 P.M. Younger children receive music instruction before church school and sing in church on an occasional basis. The church owns a set of handbells, and the handbell choir rings periodically in worship and practices Thursday evenings from 7:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. The second Sunday of each month there is a "hymn sing" at the beginning of worship in lieu of an organ prelude.

Mission and Community Outreach

Each year, our congregation designates a portion of its mission budget to specified causes. These have included a denominational missionary laboring for peace in Northern Ireland and the Emmanuel Gospel Center in Boston. Special offerings, such as the Christmas offering, are given to special causes.

A number of our members serve on various Presbytery committees and commissions.

Our Invitation

We warmly welcome you and invite you to join our congregation and the ministry of the Presbyterian Church in Burlington.

Getting here

The church is located at the intersection of Route 3A (Cambridge Street) and Route 62 (Wilmington Road), about two miles north of exit 33B on Route 128. One way to find us is to look at the following map. If that is not sufficient, you can try using the map browser to get more context.

Here are two different ways to present the map to very different browsers:

First, plain text.

It is also not difficult to get to the church by bus. The MBTA's 350 bus (Alewife-Burlington) runs right by the church - the last stop is an easy walk from the church. Sundays, the 9:20 bus from Alewife reaches Burlington at 9:50 A.M.
