Sample Transport Optimization

The objective of this project was to improve the efficiency of Malawi's national sample transportation (ST) network, which connects over 700 healthcare facilities to diagnostic testing services for HIV, TB, and Covid-19. The ST network is run by Riders 4 Health Malawi and employs 80 motorcycle couriers who transport over a million diagnostic samples each year.

I worked with Riders 4 Health to design, implement, and evaluate an optimized sample transport  solution that reduced transportation delays by 25% and eliminated over 50% of unnecessary trips by sample couriers. This work included developing  routing and scheduling algorithms to optimize courier logistics on a daily basis, as well as mobile applications, databases, and dashboards to monitor real-time demand and assess turnaround times.
