The Brain Opera is an MIT Media Lab Project which uses the internet as a medium for people to interact live with each other as well as with real performers, during a show. The Brain Opera is composed of three parts, the internet, the interactive lobby, and the performance. Through the lobby and the internet, average people are able to compose music, record samples, and alter sequences that are used to generate a performance. The web site contains information on the various "physical" instruments; harmonic driving, the melody easel, the gesture wall, the speaking trees, the rhythm trees, and the singing trees. It also has a section of musical applets that range from simple games to multiuser instruments. The Brain Opera incorporates many media, including video, audio, the internet, and custom built hardware interfaces. The project is an interesting experiment which is aimed at bringing music to as many people as possible. Link to the Brain Opera and participate live, in!
April, when it has its next perfo
rmance.
