newsletter

being in college has constricted much of my ability to sit down and write longer-form pieces which would characteristically compose my anthology, so in 2025 i founded a newsletter on notion where i can put together shorter writings.

music

i have quite the varied background in music, both as a performer and composer. music has always played a strong role in my life, as i started dancing soon after i learned to walk, and began to take vocal lessons soon after that. as a dancer, i studied many styles for short periods of time, including ballet and hip hop, but stuck with bharatnatyam (indian classical dance) for the longest. i also studied vocals in the context of indian classical music.

in elementary school, i was always fiddling with the piano at home (receiving formal piano instruction during my undergrad), and began to learn how to play violin. i continued to study violin as a primary instrument throughout middle and high school, taking lessons, performing in ensembles, serving as concertmaster of my high school orchestra. i took a more active approach to music in high school, founding a music club, picking up the ukulele and guitar, and venturing into the realm of producing. my family and i also began to perform as vocalists at charity events. my high school musical experience culminated with a solo performance of seitz student concerto no. 5 accompanied by the orchestra i led, although i pursued more advanced pieces to perform at solo recitals. a high school dream of mine was to publish an album of my own, and i currently hope to resume work on this project in the near future. i am also currently a part of MIT's concert choir.

here are some of my writings about music and compositions (a small collection which i hope to grow as i pursue my music minor).

Charlie Parker's 1946 Dial recording of "Ornithology" demonstrates bebop's revolutionary approach to transforming jazz from within.

Exploring the intersection of Asian and Western music through artist stories and 88rising's cultural milestones.

"City of Stars" primarily uses melodic tension and release and specific chord progressions to convey the emotion of hope throughout the piece.

“Einstein on the Beach” in Music by Philip Glass is an autobiographical account of the process Glass went through to make the piece “Einstein on the Beach.” It was first published in 1987 in New York (“Music by Philip Glass”).

A short piece created as an exercise to solidify my music theory understanding in a composition framework.

A setting of the poem "A Red, Red Rose" by Robert Burns to music as a composition exercise, later performed in front of an audience.

How Beethoven manipulates form, consonance, dynamics, note ranges, and interactions between instruments in “Spring” mvt. 2 and “Kreutzer” mvt. 3 to establish a melancholy feeling in “Spring” mvt. 2, and uses these same musical features to inspire a more frenzied and excited feeling in “Kreutzer” mvt. 3.

How the cover of Put Your Records On by Momney manipulates various musical elements, including form, melody, tempo, and text setting in order to create an ethereal feel to the piece.

anthology

a collection of short stories and creative writing

my writing background is quite informal, as is oftentimes the tone in the writing i produce. i began writing after having discovered a love for reading, and claimed various awards for my work (essays, poetry, and short stories) in my elementary, middle, and high school years. now, i find joy in crafting smaller works of writing for no particular audience, but hope to grow as a writer and one day publish.

the idea for an anthology occurred to me in late 2018, as a freshman in high school. my goal in publishing my work online is to build up a collection of stories that i can look back on, and to share my work with others.
