I received my Bachelor degree in Geophysics from the University of Science and Technology in 2013, and my Master degree in Geophysics from the University of Chinese Academy of Science in 2016. My current research focuses on separation and imaging of seismic diffractions using the prestack reverse time migration. My research interests are seismic processing and seismic inversion.
Raymond Ng

PhD, Geophysics (2017~)
Microseismic

Raymond Ng is a Ph. D. student in geophysics at the University of Oklahoma, where he is conducting his research on microseismicity under the direction of Dr. Nori Nakata. Raymond, a Southern California native, received both his MSc and BS degree in geology with a focus in geophysics at the California State Polytechnic University, Pomona. As a MSc student he was a collaborator in the deployment and investigation involved with the Los Angeles Syncline Seismic Interferometry Experiment (LASSIE) and applied the horizontal to vertical spectral ratio (HVSR) method to the collected full waveform data to characterize the site response of the Los Angeles basin. His current research goal is to develop an improved signal processing technique to better characterize microseismic events.
Alexandro Vera

MSc, Geophysics (2017~)
3D Multi-Component FWI

Alexandro Vera, Mexican Geophysicist from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (2003-2008). Then worked in the oil patch for 8 years; 2 years in geomechanics, 6 years in exploration geophysics as seismic quantitative interpreter. i.e. AVO/Seismic Inversion, with a strong focus on Rock physics to support exploration projects and development plans and most recently evaluating oil potential in the bidding rounds for Pemex.

Joined Oklahoma University in 2017 keen on research on wave propagation phenomena under Dr. Nakata, specially to perform studies on FWI, global inverse problems, and Seismic Imaging¡ in particularly the global optimization of P-Wave and S-wave velocity models.

Stephen Marsh

MSc, Geophysics (2016~)
Building community velocity model in Oklahoma

Stephen Marsh is a graduate student studying Geophysics at the University of Oklahoma. He also has a Bachelor’s Degree in Exploration Geophysics. As an undergraduate he compiled a fault map of Oklahoma and published a thesis titled “Comprehensive Fault Database and Interpretive Fault Map of Oklahoma” under the direction of Dr. Austin Holland. He is currently looking at Ambient Noise Seismic Tomography as the topic for his graduate thesis and plans to graduate in May of 2018.
Peiyao Li

MSc, Geophysics (2017~)
Time-lapse changes in earthquake triggering

Peiyao Li is a graduate student studying geophysics at the University of Oklahoma. He earned my bachelor of science in Petroleum geology, minor in mathematics at University of Oklahoma as well. He is interested in seismic imaging and seismology. Currently focusing on earthquake triggering.
Maggie Martin

BSc, Geophysics (2017~)
TBD

Maggie Martin is an undergraduate exploration geophysics student at the University of Oklahoma. She started her research career in 2015 working in biophysics and systems biology, where she mapped the folding mechanisms of the characteristic human and prion protein. Starting in 2016, she began working with Dr. R. Doug Elmore to paleomagnetically date diagenetic events in the Antrim Shale in Michigan. Recently, she worked at the U.S.-DOE-NETL to create a tool for estimating CO2 storage resource at CO2-EOR sites. She is interested in seismic tomography and is looking forward to working with Dr. Nakata in the upcoming year.

Bailey Elizabeth Hein

BSc, Geophysics (2016~)
Deep Earth dynamics estimated from deep seismic phases

Bailey is an undergraduate in exploration geophysics at the University of Oklahoma. She started her undergraduate degree at the University of Dundee in Dundee, Scotland in environmental science and switched to geophysics when she transferred to OU. She’s worked as a seismic analyst for the Oklahoma Geological Survey starting in January 2015, and has also done research over diagenesis with Dr. R. Doug Elmore. Currently she’s focusing on deep Earth dynamics and utilizing deep earthquake seismic waves to understand the outer core and lower mantle boundary with the help of Dr. Nori Nakata.

Congratulations, Bailey, to win the first place of the undergraduate research at the ConocoPhillips Research Symposium at the University of Oklahoma (Mar 9, 2017).
Zexuan Wang

PhD, Geophysics (2017~)
Ambient-noise correlation

Zexuan Wang is a Ph.D. student in geophysics at the University of Oklahoma supervised by Dr. Nori Nakata. Zexuan obtained his B.S. degree in geoscience from China University of Petroleum (Beijing) in 2014, and his M.S. degrees from the University of Alberta in 2015 and Western Kentucky University in 2017, respectively. His previously focused on seismic interpretation and seismic geomorphology. At the University of Oklahoma, he will conduct research on the ambient noise cross correlation.
Francis Oyebanji

MSc, Geophysics (2017~)
TBD

Francis Oluwatobiloba Oyebanji is an exploration geophysics graduate student at the University of Oklahoma, Norman. He boasts of a geophysical background with a first degree in Applied Geophysics from the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) Nigeria. In the course of obtaining a first degree, he acquired sets of practical experiences by undertaking some field trips where the team applied most of the geophysical prospecting methods to analyze the hydrogeology of the Ode-Aye sedimentary terrain in Ondo State, Nigeria. While furthering his geophysical knowledge, he was privileged to have some industry exposure with the Department of Petroleum Resources, Nigeria (DPR) as a trainee geophysicist where he participated in work programmes with international oil companies (IOCs). His undergraduate thesis which dwelt mainly on reservoir characterization (using rock physics templates and cross-plots) availed me the opportunity of working with Petrel 3.3 (Schlumberger) and Kingdom suite software on a set of well and SEG-Y data. Currently undergoing his master in Exploration geophysics under Prof. Nori Nakata with interest in Microseismicity as it relates to exploration and environment impact assessment.
