Formula One 7.0 Incompatibilities With Excel
The following is an alphabetical list of features that have some degree of incompatibility between Formula One and Excel. For more information, see the Formula One and/or Excel documentation.
- 3D charts. Formula One will open Excel files containing 3D charts, but will convert the chart to a 2D chart. See Chart Type Conversions for a list of the Excel 3D chart types and the type of chart they will be converted to in Formula One.
-
Control objects (check box, dropdown list box, button). Control objects in an Excel file will not be read in if you import the file to Formula One. Control objects in a Formula One file will not be written out if you export the file to Excel.
-
Defined names that look like cell references. This applies to any defined name in an Excel file that begins with the letters A through AVLH followed by 1 to 1,073,741,824 numerals (for example, VAL1 or S3548). When an Excel file containing such a name is imported into Formula One, formulas containing that name cannot be entered or edited.
-
Fill patterns, line styles, and line widths. This applies to formatting of drawing objects (arcs, lines, ovals, rectangles, and polygons) in Formula One files. Fill patterns, line styles, and line widths in Formula One files may not appear as you originally formatted them when you export the file to Excel.
-
Functions. Various functions return different results than the same functions in Excel. For information, see Functions ReadMe.
-
Macros. Formula One will open Excel files containing macros, but the macros will be ignored.
-
Password protection. Excel files that have password protection cannot be opened in Formula One.
-
Picture objects. Picture objects will be lost when exporting to or importing from Excel.
-
Rotated text. Formula One will open an Excel file that contains rotated text, but the text will not be rotated.
-
Rows beyond 65536; columns beyond IV. When a Formula One file with cells that extend beyond Excel’s row and column limits is exported to Excel, the data in the rows and columns that extend beyond Excel's limits will be deleted so that Excel can open the file.
-
Validation rules. Validation rules will be lost when exporting to or importing from Excel.
