Advanced Study Program

To remain competitive and profitable, industries must learn how to harness the power of new technologies. Their key people -- managers, engineers, researchers -- must become knowledgeable about current developments and be able to design and implement new systems to fulfill effectively an organization's strategic goals.

The Advanced Study Program has been designed specifically to give key people the in-depth intensive instruction they need. It unites the individual educational needs of key people, the specific requirements of their organizations, and the vast resources available at and the educational expertise of MIT.

The flexible curriculum format offered by the Advanced Study Program can be custom-designed to meet individual and organizational objectives. ASP staff work closely with applicants and their employers to arrange activities that draw on the resources at MIT. A typical program consists of academic courses in selected areas, supplemented by seminars and individual studies guided by faculty members. Participation in on-going research projects is also an option.

Participation can be full or part-time. Full-time programs have included participants from more than 500 organizations in over 70 countries. Part-time programs for participants working within commuting distance of MIT are also offered. By participating in the Program while continuing to work, Fellows relate their learning activities closely to on-going projects. Fellows may enroll for one or more terms.
