Programs

CAES offers short term (non-degree) programs having both on-campus and off-campus components.

On-campus offerings include the Advanced Study Program (now in its 33rd year) and the Professional Institute (in its 46th year), major programs which provide educational experiences for professionals who wish to keep pace with developments in their fields.

Off campus, CAES offers various undergraduate and graduate educational programs via multi-modal Distance Learning, utilizing either a "Distributed Classroom", "Independent Learning", or "Strategic Partner Relationship" metaphor.

The Advanced Study Program
ASP provides lifelong learning opportunities to meet your needs at every stage of your career. Whether you participate on-campus or at a distance, as an ASP Fellow you will:

  • Pursue a planned course of study organized to meet individual needs
  • Earn MIT credit for successfully completed coursework
  • Learn from world-renowned MIT professors
  • Gain new perspectives on emerging technologies
  • Grow professionally through dynamic interaction with other ASP fellows from around the world

We offer programs during three semesters: Fall (September - December), Spring (February - May), and Summer (June - August).

Professional Institute Program
MIT's long-standing reputation as the scientific and technical authority is carried over and beyond to its Professional Institute Program. The professors have in many cases pioneered the very theories they teach. The students are your colleagues in business and industry; the resources are the very classrooms, labs and research libraries available only to our undergraduate and graduate students. And the curriculum of 60-90 courses is geared to the working professional in that it is extremely high-level and presented in an intense 1-2 week format, for those with little or no time to spare.

Distance Learning Programs
The Center for Advanced Educational Services is a leader in distance learning, leveraging the growing capabilities of computer and telecommunication technologies. These include interactive multimedia, the Internet, the World Wide Web, videoconferencing, satellite TV, as well as more mature delivery mechanisms such as videotapes and books. We offer a variety of off-campus programs, both credit and non-credit, designed to meet the evolving needs of undergraduate, graduate, and professional learners.
