Constitution of the MIT Lion Dance Group As of: September 5, 2005 ARTICLE I: Name The name of this organization shall be the MIT Lion Dance Group (MIT LDG). ARTICLE II: Purpose The purpose of this organization shall be to promote the art of Chinese Lion dancing on the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) campus and other college campuses across the East coast. ARTICLE III : Membership 1. Any member of the MIT community is eligible to become a member of this organization. 2. The membership of this organization will at all times contain at least 5 MIT students and be more than half MIT students. 3. This organization will not discriminate based on any characteristic listed in MIT's Non-Discrimination Statement. 4. If this organization charges any monetary dues, there will be exceptions made for students that cannot afford these dues. 5. Active membership is defined as any person who has participated in some form to at least one performance a year. ARTICLE IV : Executive Board 1. This organization will have an executive board a minimum of 2 members, President and Treasurer. Duties described in clause 5 of this article along with other possible positions and their duties. 2. All members of the executive board must be distinct persons and current undergrad or graduate students. 3. Elections: 1. Elections of board members shall occur sometime in the last month of each school year. 2. Any member of this organization is eligible to run for office. 3. Quorum for elections is two-thirds of the group. 4. Any member is elected if he or she wins a majority of the voting members. 5. If more than two people are running and no one wins a majority, then the person with the fewest votes is dropped from the ballot and votes are recast. 6. The term of office runs from a week after the election until a week after the next election. 4. Removal : Officers may be removed by a two-thirds vote of the members. 5. Positions and duties: 1. President: (required) organize several performances a year, maintain the membership list, respond to performance requests, be the official representative to any other organization and to MIT, assume duties of unfilled non-essential positions. 2. Vice President: recruitment (CPW, Activities Midway, IAP guide, etc.), direct the practices, assist the president in all duties. 3. Treasurer: (required) submit funding requests to various sources of funds, maintain budget of club, collect performance fees, purchase equipment, organize transportation, order shirts/uniforms, sign all checks/vouchers of the group. 4. Webmaster: manage the website and locker. Website should include at least contact information (suggested to include: performance schedule, club and general lion dance information, announcements, links to lion dance resources and affiliates). 5. Choreographer: create dance routines and lineups, coordinates music for the performance, maintains all dancing moves, stunts, music, etc., instructs on correct stances/movement, works with the teaser coordinator. 6. Lion Keepers: makes needed repairs to lion heads and maintains other equipment, obtain perishable props (lettuce, etc) needed for performances. 7. Teaser coordinator: organize the teaser interludes of the performances, works closely with choreographer. 8. Room coordinator: books rooms and locations for practices and performances. ARTICLE V: Meetings 1. Meetings shall be held once every two weeks. 2. Meetings shall be presided over by the members of the board. 3. All decisions shall be made by a majority vote of all members present. 4. Quorum for a meeting shall be one quarter of the members of the organization. ARTICLE VI: Amendments 1. Amendments shall be presented by any member of the organization. 2. Amendments shall be passed by a two-thirds vote of the members present. 3. Quorum for amending this constitution shall be one-third of all members of the organization. ARTICLE VII: ASA God Clause The MIT Lion Dance Group agrees to abide by the rules and regulations of the Association of Student Activities, and its executive board. This constitution, amendments to it, and the by-laws of this organization shall be subject to review by the ASA Executive Board to insure that they are in accordance with the aforementioned rules and regulations.
