Memorial Table Brackets

First Welding Project • Community Service • MIG & Stick Welding

These welded brackets support tables used in the annual Remembering Children memorial. They were also my first welding project—built from scrap steel and finished with extensive grinding and refinishing.

Project Meaning

These brackets hold 300 candles in a memorial ceremony. Beyond function, the project was personally meaningful as my first experience learning MIG and stick welding from scratch.

Key Features
  • Detachable 2x4 legs for easy storage
  • Scrap steel fabrication
  • Eyebolt locking system for legs

Build Process

Step 1 — Cutting Tube Steel

We started with HSS 6x4x¼ tube, cut into short sections and split into bracket halves.

Step 2 — End Caps

1½x3½x¼ plates were cut and welded onto each bracket section.

Step 3 — Drilling & Tapping

We drilled mounting holes and tapped side holes for eyebolts.

Step 4 — Grinding & Finishing

Welds were ground smooth, mill scale removed, and brackets painted deep green.
