Excerpts from the Catholic Parish Registers of Krozingen

Krozingen, now known as Bad Krozingen, is in the Black Forest, near Freiburg im Breisgau. It was formerly in the Staufen district of the Grand Duchy of Baden. It is now in the Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald region of Baden-Württemberg, Germany.

The excerpts on this page were transcribed from LDS microfilms 0885964 and 0885972. These microfilms and microfilm 0885965 are copies of the baptism, marriage, and burial registers of the Catholic parish of Krozingen.The LDS Family History Library catalog at familysearch.org lists these microfilms but is misleading about which film contains which events. This is what they contain:

0885964  This microfilm was photographed in 1971 at the archiepiscopal archive in Freiburg. It contains the following:

  1. A Geburtsbuch (birth register) with printed columns for name, date, etc. Entries start in 1784. From 1810, they are written across the page in running text, without regard to the printed columns. The book ends in 1824.
  2. A Trauungsbuch (marriage register) with printed columns similar to the above. Entries start in 1784 and change over to running text in 1811. The book ends in 1836. These marriages appear to have been entered into the International Genealogical Index (IGI, online at familysearch.org) in batch M950282.
  3. A marriage register without printed columns. Entries start in 1837 and end in 1867. These marriages also appear to have been entered into the IGI in batch M950282.
  4. A Sterbregister (death register) with printed columns similar to the above. Entries start in 1784 and change to running text in 1811. The book ends in 1836.
  5. A death register without printed columns. Entries start in 1855 and end in 1882.
  6. A death register without printed columns. Entries start in 1837. The film ends in 1838, part way through the book.

Entries in running text, as opposed to preprinted columns, are given below in both the original German and my English translation. In the German, italics indicate underlining in the original, the mark / indicates a line break, the mark \ indicates an interline insertion, and square brackets indicate a note in the margin. I would welcome any suggestions for correction or improvement of the English translation, especially where a question mark indicates uncertainty.

      Pfarrer Lumpp 		On 26 April 1815 at half past 11 in the morning, with official permission, with consent of the parents, and according to the regulations of church and state, the undersigned Father Bonifazius LUMPP married the bachelor Joseph STEYERT, 31½ years old, legitimate son of the farmer Joseph STEYERT and of Katharin BURGERTS of Yorben, with the widow Katharina VISTERER née BLEILE, 26 years and 9 months old. The banns were proclaimed as is customary, without any objection being lodged. The witnesses were Joseph STEYERT the father and Anton BLEILE, citizen and clothier.

Agatha Scherle ehlicher Sohn, mit / der lediger Ma. Anna Iselin 20 Jahre alt, des Bürgers / Appolinar Iselin und der Magdalena Muck von Schlatt / ehlichen Tochter. The 3 banns were called without objection. The witnesses were saddler and farmer Franz MILLER of Schlatt and citizen Meinrad SCHERLE of Pfaffenweiler.
