Soaring

 

In the winter of 2012/13, I lent YG to Peter Deane to fly for the US Soaring Team in the 2012 Standard Class World Championships in Chaves, Argentina.  From the grid:

Soaring is the art of flying an aircraft powered purely by the energy in the atmosphere.  My dad took me for my first flight in a glider when I was 5, and I’ve been hooked ever since.  I learned to fly at Fault Line Flyers (FLF) in central Texas, where the thermals are as strong as the horizon is distant.   Since 2003 I’ve flown with the Greater Boston Soaring Club (GBSC) out of Sterling, MA (3B3).  I fly an LS8a (N98YG), a “standard class” glider with 15m long wings.  Here she is at Sterling after a flight last fall:
