The women's tennis team continued to mature in 1997-98 on its way to
a 5-4 record in the Fall season and a number seven ranking in the
New England Division III poll.
The team was strong in its own conference, posting a 5-1 record for its
second straight second place finish in the New Englands Women's 8. MIT's
only conference loss came at the hands of Smith, which was ranked one spot
higher in the New England poll.
Nora Humphrey '98 was named to the All-Conference team at third singles,
while sophomore Mealani Nakamura '00 garnered player of the week honors
on October 19. Humphrey was 3-1 at third singles in the conference
and 2-0 at No. 2 singles.
The team posted some impressive wins over WPI (8-1), Mount Holyoke (8-1)
and Babson (9-0), and was involved in surprisingly few close matches.
