Problems
- Class Notes #149
- Choose one column from your case study building (if you do not have a column anywhere, choose a wall and assume a one foot wide segment of the wall is the object of interest). Determine its geometric and material properties. Answer the following:
- What is it's buckling length?
- What is the maxiumum load that it can carry based only on Crushing?
- What is the maximum load that it can carry based on Buckling?
Lab
Vertical Support.
- What did you observe?
- Let's take a look at a couple today.
Lecture
- Slides which focus on the following
- Geometric Properties of Columns
- Buckling
- Concentric vs. Eccentric Loading
