Each part of a clause--the subject, the verb, the direct object and indirect objects, if any, and any adverbs--must be ordered appropriately in the clause. Most clauses use ordinary word order, but inverted word order (verb before subject) is called for occasionally. Many sentence elements--for example adjectives--have their own principles for ordering.
