Can't remember either the poem or the song. But as an English major and aspiring poet, I have also noticed allusions in Tori's work. From Cornflake Girl, "putting of her stringbean love" closely resembles a line from the poem "To His Coy Mistress" by the 17th century poet Andrew Marvell. The line "eternal footman" from Pretty Good Year comes directly from a poem by T.S. Eliot, but I'm not sure which it is--I don't have any of his poems on me at the moment. This got me thinking. It would be great to know just how well-read Tori is, and what her fave writers are. Does anyone know? Has anyone else noticed things from other works that seem really fimiliar? I'm facinated by this subject, and I'm so glad someone brought it up. It would be great fodder for an English paper... --Carla :)
