The Blizzard of 2005 from my bedroom window

January 24, 2005. I didn't go out today. but I did watch the blizzard and its aftermath from my bedroom window.

The view out my window this morning around 8:00.

My car, as viewed from my window this morning. When i parked it there was about 8 inches of snow on the ground, and the space I parked in was bare pavement, someone having just left. That was a little over 12 hours before the picture.

And this is my car 6 hours later, by which time the snow had pretty much stopped.

At least it wasn't buried as badly as some of the neighbors cars. Note: there are two cars in this picture.

I now know another reason why the standard openwork metal stairs you usually see used for fire escapes are such a good idea. Note the amount of snow on the metal stairs, as my neighbor begins to shovel the snow off the second floor balcony and the regular wood staircase that leads to the ground from it. Now imagine if the house had caught fire in the middle of the night. If I ever have a building that needs a fire escape, it's the old fashioned metal openwork stairs for me.

Neighborhood kids perform the classic pincer movement on an enemy snowbank.

I just thought this icicle was interesting, looking through the trees.
