Anthony Lioi earned a B.A. from Brown University in English and American Literature and an M.A. and Ph.D. from Rutgers University in Literatures in English. Research interests include environmental literature, ecocriticism, the essay genre, Writing Studies, feminist theory, and popular culture. Articles have been published in CrossCurrents, ISLEInterdisciplinary Studies in Literature and Environment, the edited volume Coming into ContactExplorations in Ecocritical Theory and Practice, and the teaching companion to The New Humanities Reader. He has just completed a book manuscript called Enchanting the World: Ideas of Order in the American Environmental Essay. He has also published on the anthropologist Loren Eiseley, on the place of the swamp in literary theory, and on Susan Griffin's Woman and Nature.
