Learf was a local Perelandran hero. He was born and raised in Saint Johnsburg, where he became an initiate of Chalana Arroy. He adventured with faithful companions (some of them are rumoured to still be living in Perelandra).
Learf gained fame during an orc raid in 997 now thought to mark the beginning of the Orc War. He was healing wounded companions when an orc broke through the lines and charged over preparing to kill the unconscious soldiers. Learf, having witnessed this sort of carnage once before, broke his vows to Chalana Arroy, picked up a mace belonging to one of the fallen soldiers, and struck the orc, killing him in a single blow.
After that, Learf gathered what companions would follow him and led several expeditions deep into the orc forest (and some say into dark passages that lay beneath a mystical cursed castle he found there) as an adventuring warrior-healer. At some point during this part of his career he gained, through means unknown, a magical power over all species of snakes, being able to command them to do his will.
In 1001, six months after the first Uruk-Hai were sighted, Learf led his final expedition into the depths of the orc forest. None of his party returned. Shortly thereafter, the Orc War began in earnest.
While Learf is not recognized as divine, it is said that benefits can still be derived from prayer to him. It is said that faithful followers of his have gained healing and protection magics, while the truly faithful have gained some of his power to command snakes.
Learf is portrayed as a handsome young man, armored, mace at his belt. In his left hand he holds a staff while his right is extended in a gesture of blessing.
Followers of this faith claim there are Five Holy Relics of Learf: his mace, his staff, his chain armor, his shield, and his helmet. Of these only one (the remains of his staff) has been recovered. Temples to Learf have let it be known that they will pay rewards for the recovery of any of the other four relics.
