WOGAP:

Workshop on Gender and Philosophy

WOGAP consists in a group of Boston area scholars in philosophy interested in work on gender and feminist philosophy.  Those expressing interest in the Workshop will be put on an emailing list to receive announcements of meetings and occasional news and information for feminist philosophers.

We meet at MIT the second Thursday of each month from October to May (usually skipping January). The standard format is to have a speaker present her or his work in progress on some topic in the broad area of gender and philosophy.  Papers are circulated in advance to allow maximum time for discussion.  Normally 20-25 people attend; this includes a core group who come to nearly all meetings.  We cannot provide an honorarium or cover travel expenses, however dinner is provided and usually a group of participants go out for drinks after the discussion.

Food is available as of 6pm on the night of meetings, and we invite people to come and spend time networking and socializing.  Discussion begins between 6:15-6:30 and continues 'til 8:15. Typically participants go out for a drink at the R&D Pub in MIT’s Stata Center afterwards.  Although we realize that this time slot is not ideal for parents, especially single parents, it has been the best we can find to maximize our chances of drawing scholars from around the area.

If you are interested in joining the Workshop and being on the email list, please email: wogap-request@mit.edu.  Be sure that your name and the email address you want us to use are clear (either from the message or its header).  We will circulate the paper electronically about a week prior to the meeting during which it will be discussed.  We will also ask those intending to come to RSVP so we have a head-count for the caterer.
