Matlab - HFSS Interface:
I developed this interface to perform in situ optimization of metamaterial inspired structures and various other RF devices. The design parameters are generated in Matlab then exported to HFSS where the structure is drawn and simulated. The simulation results are exported back to Matlab for post processing and optimization. Most of my designs involve optimizing pixilated grids or switches (ON or OFF states). This calls for an optimizer that can handle binary strings. I have been using a genetic algorithm (GA) as optimizer and it has worked very well so far but I am not limited to just GAs. I am currently working on other search algorithms such as the method of moving asymptotes (MMA) and the Taguchi Method.
