The Apples in Stereo
by Ian Tullis and Stephen Peters
Answer: GINGER GOLD
The applet plays a game of the card game Apples to Apples, in which you must match one of your noun cards with the adjectival card that is played. Each of the nouns in this game is a type of apple, matching the following adjectives.
Akane | causes error |
Ambrosia | celebratory, greek, rich |
Ben Davis | athletic, armored, violent |
Beverly Hills | rich, sprawling, tropical |
Braeburn | causes error |
Edward VII | historic, rich |
Enterprise | armored, automotive, free, futuristic |
Fireside | causes error |
Fuji | pretty, volcanic |
Gala | celebratory, musical, rich |
Hawaii | pretty, sprawling, tropical, volcanic |
Liberty | automotive, free, statuesque |
Pippin | armored, hairy, musical |
Rambo | armored, athletic, hairy, violent |
Rome | armored, historic, rich, statuesque |
Spartan | armored, athletic, greek, futuristic, violent |
Sunset | free, pretty, tropical |
The goal is to get to 10 points before the cards run out. This is made more difficult by the fact that three cards just don't work. Clicking them gets error messages:
- Braeburn: Error # PRINTER NOT FOUND OR CLOSED
- Fireside: Error # CONNECTION JUST CLOSED
- Akane: Error # WRITE REQUEST TOO BIG
Here you can compare apples to Apples. The messages are Apple error messages, which have crash error numbers (4101, 4100, and 4099, respectively); these error numbers match the respective PLU health codes that are stickered on apples.
When you score 10 points, you get a final error message: Error # NO FREE CONNECT CONTROL BLOCKS AVAILABLE. That's error message 4097, and PLU code 4097 is the apple variety GINGER GOLD.
