In Soviet Union, Death Defies You

Elaine Lippman

The answer is ARTUR DMITRIEV, the only missing member of the spiralling outward list of Soviet/Unified Team/Russian male winners of Olympic gold medals in pairs figure skating.  Although he is not the only man to win that medal twice, he is the only man who has won it with different partners (Natalia Mishkutenok and Oksana Kazakova).

Title and flavortext mention:  Soviet Union, unified team, Russian, Natalia, Oksana, and golden, as well as elements; the death spiral (“death defies you,” spiral shape) is a very common element in a pairs routine.
