Telephone Pictionary

by Kiran Kedlaya (mechanics), Ben Monreal (art), Sarah Bagby (intermediary)

Each of these is a depiction (in the style of the game Telephone
Pictionary) of a lyric from a Beatles song. The lyrics, and the songs
in which they appear, are:

She Came In Through the Bathroom Window: "She came in through the
bathroom window"

I am the Walrus: "I am the eggman, they are the eggmen, I am the walrus"

Drive My Car: "I got no car and it's breaking my heart"

Eleanor Rigby: "Wearing her face that she keeps in a jar by the door"

Across the Universe: "Words are flowing out like endless rain into a
paper cup"

Obladi, Oblada: "Desmond takes a trolley to the jewellers' place / Buys
a twenty carat golden ring" ("Desmond" depicted as Bishop Desmond Tutu)

For No One: "And in her eyes you see nothing / She hides no love
behind the tears"

Roll Over Beethoven: "Roll over Beethoven"

All My Loving: "Close your eyes and I'll kiss you / Tomorrow I'll miss you"

I've Got A Feeling: "Everybody let their hair down / Everybody pulled
their socks up"

Norwegian Wood: "I sat on her rug / Biding my time, drinking her wine"

Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds: "Suddenly someone is there at the
turnstile / The girl with kaleidoscope eyes"

A Day in the Life: "Woke up, fell out of bed / Dragged a comb across my head"

She's Leaving Home: "She goes downstairs to the kitchen clutching her
handkerchief / Quietly turning the backdoor key"

Tomorrow Never Knows: "Turn off your mind, relax and float downstream"

With a Little Help From My Friends: "What would you do if I sang out
of tune? / Would you stand out and walk out on me?"

Octopus's Garden: "I'd like to be under the sea / In an octopus's
garden in the shade"

Revolution: "But if you go around carrying pictures of Chairman Mao"

Dear Prudence: "The clouds will be a daisy chain"

It may be a bit hard to tell where the relevant bit of the quote
starts or stops, but no matter. Take the first letters of the names of
the *songs*, which should be unambiguous, to spell

SIDE A OF RAIN LAST WORD

The Beatles song "Rain" was the B side of a single whose A side was
"Paperback Writer". Thus the answer to the puzzle is WRITER.
