The answer is JASON STAEBLER The corresponding square is MARVIN GARDENS by Brian Tivol, Kiran Kedlaya, Albert Lin, and Chris Morse -------------------------------------------------- PART I Almost all of the phrases are near a block with chemical symbols on it. The five normal ones are: Phrase: BE MINE Near: P Where: on one of the candy hearts in the Necco bag, near the entrance to building 45 Phrase: 5 Remember this parking level Near: B Where: in the parking garage, on the fifth floor near the elevator Phrase: HE CANNOT BE SATISFIED Near: O Where: in the Margaret Fuller quote etched into the arc, near the center of the park on Sidney Street Phrase: MILLENNIUM SHUTTLE SCHEDULE Near: N Where: on a placard in the lobby of Building 75 Phrase: the home of hot dog stands, shoemakers Near: Fe Where: on the KLH ad, in the circle with the Margaret Fuller quote The first two strange phrases have entire words removed from them, and while one is kinda close to a symbol, the missing word is the key. These two are: Phrase: over the Roer River [in Germany.] These men are getting Near: nothing, really Where: the article in "The Simplex Pennant", one block over from the "Simplex Traces" sign Phrase: because of their goodness [. Yes!] by all means Near: Li, kinda near Na, kinda near J Where: the "Necco Sweets" advertisment, near those three blocks The second two strange phrases have all of their words, and they are near blocks with chemical symbols, but those aren't for elements-- they're for units. They are: Phrase: set an informal world's record (27 mph) Near: J Where: on the "___ Traces" sign, on the same arc as the "Necco Sweets" sign Phrase: at high tide, on a floating platform Near: A Where: on the back of the A block, facing the chromosome fountain So "'Yes' in Germany" (or, "In Germany, 'Yes'") is the clue for "ja" (and not "aj"). The answer is JA. -------------------------------------------------- PART II The Lowell poem mentions Don Quixote, who has SANCHOPANZA as his sidekick. The surveyor has the initials JGH which leaves SANCOPANZA. That is the translation of Anmoughcawgen, which shares the AN so the string becomes SCOPANZA. There is a large 75 on the building which is near the N(itrogen) which has S(ulfur) to the Southeast on the period table. So the string becomes SCOPANZAS. There are 67 rivets, so you remove the largest possible atomic numbered element, which is protactinium, or PA. The string is now SCONZAS. The two Fuller quotes feature the word THE three times. The third US state in alphabetical order is Arizona (AZ) so you must remove a ZA. The string is now SCONS. The years are 1896 and 1894 so the second letter gets removed. The string is SONS. -------------------------------------------------- PART III * SIMPLEX SITE / AND SURROUNDINGS / CIRCA 1957 Cooking By Electricity / With a Simplex Range VARIETIES AS SHE ADMITS / MARGARET FULLER, 1844 TELESCOPIC PEEP AT THE HEAVENS Stanley Museum, Kingfield, ME WHAT RECOMMENDS COMMERCE TO ME .--. .--. / \/ \ | IN YOUR | \ DREAMS / \ / \ / \__/ Lewis M. The remaining word is "BEAT". Which when reversed, becomes TEAB. -------------------------------------------------- PART IV +WALES+V+ANTLER-W-ALVAN-EST = LER -- If you concatenate the 4 sets of letters together, you get JA-SONS-TAEB-LER (remember, the BEAT was reversed.) This gives the name, JASON STAEBLER.
