We got to the fields a leisurely hour and a half before our first game after our first round bye. We cleated up, warmed up, and started throwing in the pretty tough 20 mph gusty wind. Our first game was against the 5th seed in our pool SUNY Buffalo. The O line had some trouble against their 4 man cup, but the D line had their backs, went on some runs, and gave the O line time to figure it out. We won 9-6.
Our second game was against the 6th seed in our pool, SUNY Oneonta. Not much to say here, we won 13-3.
Third game against the 3 seed, Missouri. These guys could not handle our monstrous zone D, and we won 12-7.
Fourth game was against Airforce. These guys were in good shape, to say the least, and ran a mean H-stack. We went down big in the first half as the O line had some more trouble with a 4 man cup and they took half 7-4. We talked about it and decided that that was bull shit. The D line took the field after half and went on a run again bailing out the O line and we stormed back with a 6-0 run to win 10-7. An awesome second half MIT comeback. A side note, the turning point in the game may have been on the first point in the second half when after a stoppage on our goal line, an Airforce player "tapped the disc in," as his team mate directed, by putting the disc down on the ground and tapping it. As Andrew rightly pointed out on the field, it was a turnover. The D line worked it back up the field and Air Force never scored again.
Our fifth game was against a scrappy Rochester team with some really tall guys and 2 guys who could throw very far. It was a frustrating game because we knew we were the better team. After going down 10-9, we pulled it together and won 13-11.
So we held our 1 seed in our pool on Saturday and went undefeated even having lost all but one flip the entire day (Yang's fault, not mine...).
First game: Messiah. Needless to say we were excited about this game having lost by 1 point to them at Vegas and knowing it could have gone the other way. It was less windy, and we started on O. They abandoned their zone, and came man. The O line put it in easily, and then the D line, who had fucking come to play, went on a crushing run and we took half 8-2. Messiah made some runs in the second half, but we held on for a nice 15-9 victory.
Our second game was against WashU. After going down 8-2 at half, due in large part to some sloppy O and a lot of drops, the D line again came out in the second half with some fire. We fought back hard and although we won the second half 10-7, we lost the game 12-15. This dropped us into the 5th place bracket.
Our next opponent, Miami Ohio, forfeited. So we had a bye and waited on the winner of Maryland vs Princeton. Maryland won by a bunch. With the exception of a couple points, the O line was able to score a lot, giving the D line some breathing room to do what they do best. The first half was close, but we took it 8-6. We then decided to stomp on their throats (literally, as Kevin thought the best way to contest a foul was to actually step on a guys throat...) and we pulled away to win the game 14-9 in front of a lot of their girls. It felt good.
