Necessaries 1. Visit Jane Trull (janej). Fill out your UROP activation form, UROP application, and key card. 2. Write a UROP Proposal. Remember, while this is fun, profitable, and otherwise exciting, it is also a learning experience. We want you to think about what you might learn--and we'll help you keep track of what you do learn. Advise for UROPs 1. Know your supervisor. You and they should probably meet at least once a week. 2. Spend some time on a weekly status report. 3. If you're going to punt, tell people. I'm promoting a simple scheme for laying out plans. Start early with 1. Define a goal. Make it realistic. 2. Lay out the steps you expect to take to reach that goal. 3. Estimate when each step will be done. If someone else is doing any of them, make sure they know it. 4. Add in periodic checkpoints. If there are logical points (finishing a key step, etc.), use those, otherwise just make them regular. At the checkpoints, review the whole plan--steps, estimates of completion dates, etc.
