The project schedule calls for space planning to be complete by December 20. The move will take place next year. To meet this schedule, we will be having a meeting today and quickly moving forward on this. The architect is Steve Perry, of Perry and Radford Architects. To make sure your interests and those of your team members have been considered, I ask you to send me (mbarker@mit.edu) answers to the following by this weekend. I will summarize your responses and provide that information to the other team members. 1. What are special or unique qualities of your team's work which affect architectural planning? (For example, does your team's work require a hardware stockroom? Does it require an electronic "visitor's center"? Does it require small, informal meeting areas? Does it require telephones and "walkup" access?) 2. What are special or unique needs of your team members in their office work environment? 3. What features of existing IS spaces are good (and why are they good)? What existing features aren't good (and why aren't they good)? Although we have not yet had our first meeting, I want to make sure that you know the kind of questions we are trying to address. I want to provide you with an opportunity to provide your answers, and those of the people you work with and know. As the scope of our work and the parameters of the move become clearer, I hope we will all be able to see our interests and concerns being reflected, first in the design and then in the actual building. I look forward to working with you to make the N42 project a success for all of us. Mike Barker
