To: ilead@MIT.EDU Subject: One Year Ago... Date: Tue, 18 Mar 1997 12:08:38 EST From: Mike Barker On March 18, 1996, the Ilead group set itself a list of "critical success factors". I thought on the anniversary I would remind us of the main headings. I have put them in the form of questions. There were three large areas, each with a number of specific bullets under it. 1. Have we created common understandings and better communications? a. Have we clarified our directions? b. Have we communicated status information in a clear and timely fashion? c. Have we learned to talk and listen better? d. Have we included the broader audience? 2. Have we focused on teams and people? a. Have we been clear? b. Have we respected, valued, and provided feedback to fellow team members? c. Have we motivated people? d. Have we developed and deployed new skills? e. Have we instilled accountability? f. Have we helped to move through the transition to the new work environment? g. Have we built good team leaders? 3. Have we tackled project management, workload, and time crunch issues? a. Have we learned and practiced good project management skills? b. Have we established and understood our prioritization procedures? c. Have we scheduled and tracked work and people? d. Have we reduced workloads/queues/pressure? e. Have we improved the quality of meetings? f. Have we implemented tools for thinking? g. Have we focused on business measures and customer service?
