It did come; but then only after the required sentence of a cold Purgatory. The first day dawned crisp and chill. Forsythia waved limber limbs bowed with yellow blooms. Tulips stood tall and proud in their primary colors. Daffodil sentinels lined the paths; all soft coronas, dark throats and frilly edges. Green arms reached from the earth. Birds sang in fresh tenor. Leaves shed their wrappings and unfurled. I flipped the calendar, smug that there was no going back. Heaven came as scheduled this first day of spring.
