Subject:      [WRITERS] FILLER: Intro - Jo Mays

Hi everyone,

I've only been hanging around for about a day, long enough to feel a
kinship to some of you (Prine and Santa Nella) and know some subjects to
avoid with others ;]  I've gotta warn you, I love a good debate, but
only on the issues.

Anyway, never one to be shy, I thought I'd introduce myself.  I'm a
writer, of course.  Been writing for about forty years, but just in the
last few months started calling myself one, a writer, (thought we'd
moved on, eh?)

I won't bore you with all my published credits because, well...I have
none. Unless you count letters to the editor and neighborhood flyers.  I
plan to change that though and get published for real.  Since I didn't
do it at thirty, or forty, maybe by the time I'm fifty, I'll reach my
goal.  I've got two and a half years.  I'm starting to think of Grandma
Moses as a role model.

So far, I've written mainly non-fiction and poetry.  I started writing
fiction, halfway seriously, just in the last year.  My current passion
is flash/sudden/fast/whatever, short-short fiction.  I love the way it
allows me to express the unexpressable, much like poetry, but different.
I'll probably be posting some of it here.  If you hate them, hey, at
least they're short ;]

Oh yeah, I live on the northern California coast, near Monterey Bay, in
an area known for garlic and earthquakes.  I've been married for twenty
one years and we have eight kids; five cats, two horses and one dog.

That's about it.  Looking forward to getting to know you through your
writings.
