Journal for 2003 September 24
I'm writing this journal in between work at the wednesday startup. The startup continues dispite all evidence to the contrary-- the work ethic is erratic; the working environment is less than healthy, and interaction between people is often toe-steppy and difficult to maintain. Nonetheless, as old people leave to school or out of frustration, new ones come in and every couple of weeks. The work always seems to be moving quickly enough, but not always in the right direction (rather, not what I consider to be the right direction: shortest route to a working site).

Yesterday was the first time that I stayed at Olin after midnight. My original plan was to leave at my normal time (5:00, everyday but Monday), work on Olin stuff at home, get Claudia from the airport at 10:00, and have a rewarding evening with her. Things did not happen that way. Diana asked if I could help her with some basic Matlab stuff, and I was happy to do so, meeting with her at 3:45. I worked on stuff in my office and helped Claudia with some 6.001 work she was frantically trying to finish until then. Unfortunately, Diana's Matlab stuff involved creating some demos that required fft/ifft functionality with which I was not familiar. After coming back to my office in time to help a student, at 4:45, I worked with Claudia until about 6:30, during which I solved the Matlab problem, hoping to get on the 7:15 train. However, when I went to show Diana my work, I realized that I had only gotten through half of the demo that she ultimately wanted. We worked for two hours, and when I got back to call Claudia, she told me that she decided to delay her flight so that she would have time to finish 6.001. I decided to take Diana up on an offer to stay at Olin as late as she did, and then get a ride back to Davis Square. Claudia and I worked on .001 until midnight and I leave Olin 45 minutes later.

I tried to write an entry yesterday. I'm just going to include it here, because it really doesn't deserve it's own page:
